About Bootmaker
About Bootmaker
All Iron Boots are fully handmade by our bootmaker Kai and 5 teammates together in a small studio at Guangzhou. They are built in handwelt or hand stitchdown, with channelled insole construction, which are stronger and last longer than normal Goodyear welted shoes/boots made by machines. Each pair is 100% hand welted, hand last, hand bottomed, and also hand-sewn outsole stitch.

Lead Time
Lead Time
Current lead time is around 3-5 months (orders from Mar. - Oct.)
Due to Lunar New Year holiday break and end of year surge, orders from Nov. - Feb. can take around 6, or even 9 months to finish.
FYI, lead time is just an estimate, which means the actual lead time can be shorter or longer. We don't accept cancel / refund for MTO orders, even it takes longer than the estimated lead time. But if you have already waited more than the estimated lead time, you can reach out to us. We will investigate what has happened, and try everything we can to make things right. Normally, rare size/width would take longer by default, like size 14, or width EE etc.
Unfortunately it's just the natural of how customized stuff is made in a small workshop. If that's a deal breaker, you can take a look of our Ready To Wear collection instead.

This has become my most worn boot at this point. At the top I'll just say their sizing advice is spot on, if you can afford the extra cost the Guidi leather is incredibly nice, and the TCO last strikes a rare balance of being casual but able to scale up to business casual without looking weird in either space.
Specs:
TCO last
Plain welt
Structured toe
Black Guidi horsebutt
1090 half sole
Black edging
Size 9EE
For sizing, I went off of my size in White's boots. I wear 9EE on their 690 and 55 last. Initially I was concerned because I am a 10EE on a US Brannock device and the White's boots can shrink your length due to the high arch in them. It was the correct choice though, because a 9.5EE definitely would have been too long.
The Guidi leather is incredibly supple out of the box, there was basically no break in. It's completely different from other horsebutt you might see from Maryam or Horween. I genuinely can't recommend it enough, and if I get more from Iron Boots in the future I would choose Guidi again.
The toe stiffener adds a noticeable bump on the TCO last and makes it a very casual looking boot. The black leather can help dress it up, but it's definitely not the same as a dedicated dress boot.
Finally the TCO last is very nice, the extra height on the instep and space at the ball of your foot is very welcome for me and is the main reason I wear these the most. It's just an extremely comfortable last and the boot is put together very well.
